Mangaluru: A 65-year-old lady was trampled to loss of life by a wild elephant whereas she was engaged in rubber tapping at a plantation in Kolthige village close to Puttur on Monday morning. The deceased, recognized as Sellamma, a resident of Kaniyaru CRC Colony, was working as a rubber tapper for the Karnataka Forest Growth Company (KFDC) and lived alone.
In line with a criticism filed by her son T. Yogaraj, Sellamma had gone to work on Tuesday as regular and was tapping rubber between 7 am and eight am within the Hartyadka space, about 70 kms from Mangaluru, when a wild elephant attacked her. The elephant reportedly charged at her, chased her down and trampled her, inflicting extreme accidents that led to her loss of life on the spot.
The Bellare Police have registered a case underneath Unnatural Demise Report (UDR) and are investigating the incident. Following the loss of life, forest officers, KFDC authorities, the Sullia circle inspector, and personnel from the Bellare police station visited the situation and carried out an inspection.
