New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tributes to iconic tabla participant Zakir Hussain, saying he can be remembered as a real genius who revolutionised the world of Indian classical music. Expressing grief at his demise, Modi stated he introduced tabla to the worldwide stage, fascinating thousands and thousands along with his unparalleled rhythm. By means of this, he seamlessly blended Indian classical traditions with international music, thus turning into an icon of cultural unity, Modi added.
He stated on X, “His iconic performances and soulful compositions will contribute to encourage generations of musicians and music lovers alike. My heartfelt condolences to his household, buddies and the worldwide music group.”
Hussain died in a hospital in San Francisco, US, his household stated on Monday. He was 73.
Hussain died from issues arising out of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, the household stated in a press release.
He had been in hospital for the previous two weeks and was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after his situation deteriorated.
