SC’s in-house committee commences inquiry

New Delhi: Three members of the Supreme Court docket-appointed in-house committee on Tuesday commenced its inquiry into the alleged money discovery row involving Delhi Excessive Court docket decide Justice Yashwant Varma, sources mentioned.

They mentioned the three members — Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Excessive Court docket of Punjab and Haryana, Justice G S Sandhawalia, Chief Justice of the Excessive Court docket of Himachal Pradesh, and Anu Sivaraman, Choose of the Excessive Court docket of Karnataka — reached Justice Varma’s official residence at 30, Tughlak Crescent right here.

The judges have been contained in the official residence of Justice Varma for round 30-35 minutes and apparently inspected the location, sources mentioned.

The alleged money discovery occurred following a fireplace at Justice Varma’s official residence right here at round 11.35 pm on March 14, prompting the fireplace officers to hurry to the spot and douse it.

On March 22, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna constituted a three-member committee to conduct an in-house inquiry into allegations in opposition to Justice Varma.

Justice Varma strongly denounced the allegations and mentioned no money was ever positioned within the storeroom both by him or any of my members of the family.

In his response submitted to Delhi Excessive Court docket Chief Justice D Ok Upadhyaya, Justice Varma mentioned the allegations of money discovery at his residence clearly seemed to be a conspiracy to border and malign him.
